DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
Location: Rives Junction, Michigan

Position Description:
The Director of Development is responsible for the implementation of an effective and comprehensive fundraising program for Youth Haven's ministry to disadvantaged children. Strategic priorities include: significantly increasing annual fund giving; increasing major and planned giving; creating a program to address donor retention, loyalty, and sustained giving; and seeking foundation funding prospects all in an effort to reach more children for Christ.

Must love Jesus and have an active, growing relationship with Him!

Have a passion and vision to reach children for Christ, specifically disadvantaged children ages 7-13

Have a sincere and deep commitment to Youth Haven's mission and values

Be evangelistic and missions focused, desiring to be part of a “seed-sowing” ministry focused on teaching the Gospel message to children who may never hear of Jesus Christ elsewhere

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

A minimum of 2-4 years in development or advancement positions (prior experience fundraising for children's organization preferred)

A track record of establishing successful sustainable fundraising programs, including a demonstrated history of initiating and implementing both donor stewardship and prospect cultivation programs

Highly competent in planning and capable of translating plans and ideas into action that produces results

Creative problem solving and analytical skills

Business acumen and fiscal responsibility with an ability to “ask” and “close”

Excellent leadership skills and presence with the ability to engage and inspire others

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Must be a self-starter, goal oriented leader with the capacity to manage multiple priorities with attention to details

Able to work independently as well as promote collaboration

Commitment to continued professional growth and development

Able to maintain a flexible schedule and work as needed outside of standard working hours, including some nights and weekends to accomplish development goals and objectives

Knowledge of fundraising and donor management technology, Salesforce knowledge a plus

Willingness to travel to Arizona and other states regularly as needed
Principal Responsibilities:

With the President, set priorities, goals, and strategies for key fundraising initiatives for major gifts, annual giving, grant writing, fundraising events (including stewardship and cultivation events), planned giving, and capital improvements

Initiate and actively manage an effective program of identifying and cultivating high-level donor prospects

Manage a portfolio of 75-100 mid to high level donors, cultivating each relationship with a goal of moving them into higher levels of investment into Youth Haven. Methods will include personal visits, phone calls, personal notes and emails. This requires placing needs in front of them and directly asking for gifts.

Collaborate with the President and Director of Communications on communication strategies and the design and content of fundraising materials, including case statements, donor solicitations, brochures, annual reports, invitations, development-related articles, videos, and other related fundraising tools

As a member of the leadership team, exemplify Youth Haven's integrity and vision, and become well versed in its missions in order to share this information to donors and funders

Demonstrate high ethical standards in leadership and fundraising and comply with all regulations and laws

In time, build an effective Development team, providing the training, supervision, and motivation for direct reports, as well as establishing performance goals and incentives

Perform other duties as assigned
